The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) on Saturday lashed out at taxi associations warring over routes.
The union's provincial executive committee condemned recent the violence between the Kempton park and Ivory Park taxi associations, Gauteng secretary, Xolani Nyamezele said in a statement.
"The PEC condemns the violence that has been going on since Thursday last week between the Kempton park and Ivory park taxi associations," he said.
Nyamezele said the PEC also suggested that taxi associations down tools until disputes over routes because this tension placed the lives of commuters at risk.
"We also call upon commuters to boycott the two taxi associations [Kempton park and Ivory park] until they learn to respect trade union rights and human life," said Nyamezele.
